Hazel Irene Brakebill was born on April 29, 1927 in Madisonville, Tennessee at 123 Henry Street. She graduated from Madisonville High School in 1944.

She later married Edward Harris Brakebill (b. June 25, 1925) and they lived in an 16' Airstream trailer while he worked a farm to feed his family. While there they had a daughter, their only child, Linda Irene Brakebill. Later they lived in Madisonville where they owned a 3 bedroom brick home and then in North Chattanooga for a short while.

Eventually Edward got a job at the Ford Glass Plant in Nashville, Tennessee and they moved there. They owned a modest home on the west side of Nashville near his work and where he had a garden. He bought some property southwest of Nashville and raised cattle and some corn. He had quite a few cattle which he really enjoyed and of course he had a barn and other outbuildings. This he did in his spare time. He retired from Ford in the 1990s.

After the death of Edward on October 1, 1997 at the age of 72 Hazel moved to live near their only daughter, Linda Irene Brakebill Schultz and her husband Warren.
