Nancy Helen Joines was born September 12, 1933 in the Joines homeplace at 123 Henry Street, Madisonville, Tennessee. She is the youngest child of Charles Ross and Jessie Mae Joines. She attended Madisonville High School and graduated in 1952. She later played softball in a league that was organized by a local man named Gibby. After school she worked at the Dairy Mart on Highway 411 North. She also worked in the offices of Doctor Kimbrough, in Madisonville, where she mixed medicines. Doctor Kimbrough tried to convince her to give inoculations but she refused to do that. Later she went to work at the 5 and 10 Cent Store on College Street in Madisonville. At that time the pay was 30 cents an hour and the store was owned by Mr. J. C. Moncier from Knoxville, Tennessee. He was the Father of the infamous Knoxville lawyer, Herb Moncier. Nancy became manager of the store and worked there until taking a job at the court house as a bookkeeper in the offices of the school superintendant. Ted graduated from Madisonville High School in 1951. He attended University of Tennessee on a baseball scholarship and turned down an opportunity to play in the minor leagues. He later served in the United States Army at a time when two years of miltary service was required. Ted and Nancy adopted Michael in 1970 at which time Nancy retired from work and spent the next years caring for their child until he passed away on October 9, 1999 which was a devastating time for both of them. Today Nancy and Ted spend their time traveling and are active at Rocky Springs Baptist Church. Ted loves to work in his yard and even helps to keep his neighbor's property mowed when needed. He also enjoys collecting things and when he has enough items he enjoys having yard sales. Nancy regularly visits with her older sister Harriette Hodge at the Madisonville nursing home. | ||
