Michele Gorman Strickler, 80, entered into the loving arms of her Savior during the early morning hours of Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Michele was born on August 15, 1942, in Knoxville, TN. Daughter of the late Chalmers Jerome Gorman, Sr. and Bonnie Kate (Calhoun) Gorman. Michelle was a 1960 graduate of Madisonville High School and later attended Hiwassee College where in 1962 she was involved in a motor vehicle accident which nearly took her life. After the accident, Michele served as a warrior for Christ, leading others to God through her testimony which was often shared with others. |
Michele moved the Bristol area in 1980 where she attended Euclid Avenue Baptist Church and later became a member of First Christian Church where she was a member for 25 years. Michele loved singing and dancing and was a joy to be around with her subtle jokes. She was a mother to many, as well as being heavily involved with various activities such as PTA with her children. Michele was a Christian Leader for Aglow International, where she led many ladies to Christ; she was a member of many prayer groups. Michele was a dedicated member of First Christian Church in Abingdon, VA. One of the greatest joys of her life, was the local children of the church coming to swim in "Mimi's heated pool. Michele was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend; she will be sorely missed.
In addition to her parents, Michele was preceded in death by her son, David Kent Moyers.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 51 years, Guy William Strickler, Jr.; five children, Alayna Perry, Margaret Peggy Skyles & husband Billy, Pamela Trotter & husband Joel, Robin Michele Mullins & husband Todd, and Christopher Guy Strickler; two grandchildren whom she raised alongside her husband, Joseph Alexander Strickler and Bonnye Elizabeth Strickler; nine other grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, Chalmers Jerome Gorman, Jr. & wife Sonja; daughter-in-law, Ruthann Moyers; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy Joyce & husband Bobby; a niece and nephew, several cousins, and a host of many many friends.
The family will greet guests and share memories on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at First Christian Church (185 Jonesboro Road Abingdon, VA 24210) from noon to 1 p.m. at A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 1p.m. at First Christian Church with Pastor Tom Crise officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to First Christian Church (185 Jonesboro Road Abingdon, VA 24210).
