July 18, 1916 - January 4, 2014

RAPKING, Glenn H., age 97, of Madisonville, passed away 1:27 A.M., Saturday, January 4, 2014, at his residence. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Madisonville, the Methodist Men’s Club, and the Lions Club. He was a sponsor of the Children’s House Day Care in Madisonville; and did the maintenance work at First United Methodist Church and the Children’s House Day Care. He started the Industrial Arts Program in 1945 at Hiwassee College, and served on the board of trustees for 20 years. He Established Hiwassee Furniture Manufacturers in 1957, and retired in 1983. He hand crafted many gifts and furniture items for donations to many individuals and community organizations.

Preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Letha L. Rapking; daughter Margaret Hope Sloan.

Survivors: Daughter and sons-in-law, Beth and J.T. Scruggs, of Madisonville, Richard Sloan, of Farragut; Son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Pat Rapking, of Madisonville; Grandchildren and spouses, Jeff and Johnnie Howard, Kim Bohanan, Karen Rapking, Kelly and Pat Burnette; 7 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral 8:00 P.M., Monday, Biereley-Hale Chapel, Rev. Carole Martin officiating. Interment 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, Haven Hill Memorial Gardens. The family suggest memorials to be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, or to the Rapking Scholarship Fund at Hiwassee College. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville.
